Authorities across several states have issued warnings about a disturbing new prank targeting Walmart customers — one that could quickly turn dangerous.
The so-called “shopping cart prank” begins when an unsuspecting shopper leaves their cart unattended for just a moment. Pranksters have been slipping fake notes, tracking tags, or small objects into carts or vehicles to scare or confuse the victims once they leave the store. Some incidents have even involved pranksters following people to their cars, recording their reactions for social media.
While most of these cases are meant for attention online, police say the behavior can escalate — causing panic, confrontation, or even leading to theft.
