A newly married couple lay in bed, the room quiet except for the hum of the ceiling fan. Feeling curious and a little too confident, the husband turned to his wife and asked how many men she had slept with before him. He expected a laugh, maybe a playful answer. Instead, she went completely silent, staring straight up at the ceiling. At first, he smiled, thinking she was teasing him. Finally, unable to take it anymore, he leaned closer and said her name softly. “Are you upset?” She slowly turned her head and looked at him, genuinely confused. “What?” she asked. Relieved, he laughed and repeated the question one last time. She frowned slightly, then smiled. “Oh… I was counting,” she said casually, like she’d been distracted by a text.

His smile vanished. “Counting what?” he asked, already fearing the answer. She shrugged. “You asked how many men I’ve slept with. I didn’t want to guess wrong.” The room went silent again, but this time it was him staring at the ceiling. She rolled over, kissed his cheek, and whispered, “Don’t ask questions you don’t want answers to,” before turning off the lamp.

That night, he learned an important lesson about marriage. Trust matters. Timing matters. And curiosity, when mixed with insecurity, can be dangerous. As for her, she fell asleep peacefully, amused by how one innocent question had turned into a moment he would never forget.
