Billy Bob had finally decided it was time to sell his old pickup truck. The problem was, the thing had over 250,000 miles on the odometer and looked like it had lived through three wars and a tornado. Every buyer who came by took one look at the mileage, shook their head, and walked away. Weeks went by with no luck, and Billy Bob was getting desperate.

One day at work, while stacking shelves at Walmart, Billy Bob told his coworker about his problem. His friend listened carefully, scratched his chin, and said, “Well… there is a way to make it easier to sell. But it’s not exactly legal.”

Billy Bob didn’t even hesitate. “That doesn’t matter,” he said. “I really need to sell this truck.”

The friend leaned in and whispered, “Just roll the odometer back to about 50,000 miles. Nobody will ever know.”

Billy Bob thought about it for a moment, then grinned. That night, he went home, fiddled with the odometer, and sure enough — the next morning it read a clean, beautiful 50,000 miles. Two days later, a buyer showed up, loved the truck, and paid cash on the spot.

A week later, Billy Bob ran into his Walmart friend again. “Did you sell the truck?” the friend asked.

“Sure did!” Billy Bob said proudly. “Got a great price for it too.”

“Well, that’s great,” the friend replied. “So… what did the buyer say about the mileage?”

Billy Bob laughed and said, “Oh, I didn’t sell it to him.”

The friend looked confused. “Then what happened?”
