“No, I had to stop drinking years ago,” the homeless man replied.

“Will you use it to go fishing instead of buying food?” I asked.

“No, I don’t waste time fishing,” the homeless man said

“I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.”

“Will you spend this on hunting equipment?” I asked.

“Are you NUTS!” replied the homeless man

“I haven’t gone hunting in 20 years!”

“Well,” I said, “I’m not going to give you money

Instead, I’m going to take you home for a shower and a terrific dinner cooked by my wife.”

The homeless man was astounded

“Won’t your wife be furious with you for doing that?”

I smiled and said,
“Don’t worry about her. She won’t be mad.”

Still unsure, the homeless man hesitated, then finally agreed and got into the car.

On the way home he asked,
“Sir, I have to ask… why are you doing this?”

I replied,
“Because it will make my wife very happy.”

When we arrived, my wife saw the man, smiled warmly, and immediately started preparing a meal. After a hot shower and clean clothes, he sat at our table and ate like someone who hadn’t had a real dinner in a long time.

Later that night, my wife pulled me aside and said,
“I’m so proud of you.”

I asked,
“Why?”

She answered,
“Because I got to see what you’d look like if you ever stopped taking care of yourself.”

Moral:
Sometimes kindness isn’t just about helping others — it’s also about reminding ourselves how easily life can change, and how much compassion really matters.
