An older couple was cruising comfortably down the highway, soaking in their retirement years like pros. The windows were rolled all the way down, a classic country song floated through the air, and the road stretched endlessly ahead of them. The wife sat confidently behind the wheel, chatting about dinner plans and old memories, while her husband relaxed in the passenger seat, nodding off between comments and unsolicited driving advice.

They were enjoying the moment a little too much — and driving a little too fast — when flashing red and blue lights suddenly appeared in the mirror. The wife’s smile dropped instantly as she slowed the car and pulled onto the shoulder. “Uh-oh,” she muttered, gripping the steering wheel. A police officer approached with a calm stride and leaned down toward her window.

“Ma’am,” the officer said politely, “do you know how fast you were going?”
The wife squinted at him, then turned to her husband. “What’d he say?”
The husband leaned forward and shouted at full volume, “HE SAID YOU WERE SPEEDING!”
The officer smiled, already sensing what kind of stop this was going to be.

“May I see your driver’s license?” the officer asked next.
Once again, the wife turned toward her husband. “What’d he say?”
“He wants your license!” the husband bellowed, nearly startling the officer.

After checking her ID, the officer chuckled and said, “Oh, you’re from Georgia! I went on a blind date there once — worst date of my life.” The wife’s eyebrows knit together in confusion. She leaned over again and asked, “What’d he say?” Without missing a beat, the husband shouted back, “HE SAID HE KNOWS YOU… AND HE’S VERY SORRY!”

The officer burst out laughing, handed the license back, and waved them on with a warning and a grin. As they pulled back onto the highway, the wife smiled sweetly and said, “See? Retirement’s still full of surprises.” Her husband just nodded, turned up the radio, and went right back to sleep.
