She said, \u201cI need to talk to you privately. Your son told me you make him sleep&nbsp;<em>outside<\/em>&nbsp;when he\u2019s bad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My heart dropped. I was shocked \u2014 and embarrassed. \u201cWhat? I\u2019ve&nbsp;<em>never<\/em>&nbsp;done that!\u201d I said, completely confused. The teacher gave me a concerned look and said she just wanted to make sure everything was okay at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the way home, I turned to my son and gently asked, \u201cSweetheart, what did you tell your teacher about sleeping outside?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He looked at me with his big innocent eyes and said, \u201cYou know, when I\u2019m bad, you say I have to sleep outside with&nbsp;<em>Buddy<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buddy is our&nbsp;<strong>dog<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It turns out he meant lying in the backyard grass, playing with the dog during the day \u2014 not sleeping outside as punishment. The teacher had misunderstood his little story completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We both laughed so hard when I explained it to her the next morning \u2014 and now, it\u2019s become one of those family stories we\u2019ll never forget.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I went to pick up my son from daycare, his teacher pulled me aside with a serious look on her face.
