He endured third-degree burns to his face, scalp, and upper body, which left him disfigured. For years, he wore a baseball cap, sunglasses, and prosthetic ears to hide his appearance. Despite multiple surgeries, he couldn\u2019t regain normal facial functions, and his life became a daily battle with public stares and pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theonlinestory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-223.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16388\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2015, after a long search, Patrick became the first American to undergo a face transplant. The surgery, led by Dr. Eduardo D. Rodriguez, took 26 hours and involved more than 100 medical professionals. Patrick\u2019s new face came from David Rodebaugh, a 26-year-old who had died in a bike accident.
