I was on a flight to a work conference, feeling lucky about snagging an aisle seat. The man in the window seat next to me looked like he belonged in a boardroom\u2014sharp suit, expensive watch, and an attitude that said the rules didn\u2019t apply to him. He barely acknowledged me when I sat down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Halfway through the flight, the attendants began serving dinner. I hadn\u2019t eaten all day and was genuinely looking forward to it. Unfortunately, right as they reached our row, I really needed to use the restroom. I figured it would be fine\u2014I\u2019d be gone for two minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I came back, my tray was gone. Instead, I saw the man beside me happily eating what was clearly a second meal. My stomach dropped.
\u201cDid they bring my meal?\u201d I asked, trying to stay calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He smirked and didn\u2019t even look embarrassed. \u201cYeah. You were gone forever, so I assumed you didn\u2019t want it. Waste not, right? I was still hungry.\u201d
\u201cYou ate my food?\u201d I asked, stunned.
He shrugged. \u201cYou snooze, you lose. Grab something at the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I sat there furious, clutching a sad little bag of pretzels while he leaned back, satisfied with himself. He looked like a man who truly believed he\u2019d won some kind of victory. Then, about twenty minutes later, the flight attendants made an announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to unexpected turbulence ahead, all passengers were asked to remain seated\u2014and restroom use was suspended for the next hour. Almost immediately, Mr. Important\u2019s confidence vanished. He started shifting in his seat, crossing and uncrossing his legs, his face slowly draining of color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ten minutes in, he was visibly sweating. He kept pressing the call button, begging a flight attendant to let him use the restroom. She politely but firmly refused, citing safety rules. Meanwhile, I sat there quietly, pretending not to notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the time the turbulence ended, he bolted down the aisle the second the seatbelt sign turned off, looking absolutely miserable. When he returned, he avoided eye contact entirely. No apology. No comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
