My daughter planned this party, paid for part of it with her own allowance, and made a guest list that didn\u2019t include Amelia \u2014 for a reason. You weren\u2019t invited either, yet here you are criticizing balloon arches like it\u2019s a wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amelia stood there, now pouting dramatically while icing dripped from her fingers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I walked over to my daughter, hugged her, and whispered,<br>\u201cGo grab the backup cupcakes, sweetheart. We\u2019ve still got a party to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She nodded, still teary but relieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That night, I had a talk with my ex. I told him boundaries matter \u2014 for kids, and for adults.
